Nyobolt is a British battery technology company headquartered in Cambridge, England, founded in 2019 as a University of Cambridge spin-out from Professor Dame Clare Grey's lab in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, with Dr. Sai Shivareddy as co-founder and CEO. The company develops high-power, ultra-fast-charging lithium-ion batteries based on proprietary niobium-based anode materials that enable faster electron transfer between anode and cathode. Its low-impedance cells generate less heat during charge and discharge, allowing very high charge rates without the thermal penalties of conventional cells.
Nyobolt targets applications where downtime is costly, including industrial robotics, autonomous mobile robots and AGVs, warehouse and material-handling equipment, heavy-duty machinery and electric vehicles. The company demonstrated its technology in an electric sportscar prototype that charged from 10% to 80% in under five minutes, roughly twice the speed of the fastest-charging production vehicles. Independent testing confirmed the cells can sustain more than 4,000 fast-charge cycles, equivalent to about 600,000 miles, while retaining over 80% capacity. Nyobolt takes a systems-level approach, integrating its cells with power electronics and battery-management software to deliver complete fast-charging energy systems rather than standalone cells.
The company has raised successive funding rounds backed by investors including IQ Capital, supporting commercialization for high-power, mission-critical uptime applications. For the robotics and automation sector, Nyobolt functions as a power and energy component supplier whose rapid-recharge batteries can dramatically reduce robot and vehicle downtime, increasing fleet utilization in logistics, manufacturing and service environments.
