Company Overview

Novium, Ltd. is an engineering and manufacturing company in Webster, Texas (12554 Galveston Rd, B200), near NASA's Johnson Space Center, that designs, builds and qualifies spaceflight mechanisms, motion-control electronics and modular robotics. The company describes itself as a "robotics-inspired engineering firm" whose founding engineers took hardware "from concept to orbit." On June 17, 2026 the defense technology company Lyntris announced it had acquired Novium for undisclosed terms; Novium joins Lyntris' Space ISR & Resilient Communications portfolio and keeps its Houston-based team and operations. Lyntris began trading on the NYSE under the symbol LYNX in August 2026.

Novium's technical roots are in NASA JSC's robotics work. Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer James Holley previously worked on robotic actuator control, embedded and distributed robotic control systems and humanoid robotics at JSC. Co-founder and Director of Technology Development Josh Figuered started in JSC's Robotics Systems Technology Branch, leading hardware design for Robonaut, Valkyrie, the Space Exploration Vehicle, the Modular Robotic Vehicle and VIPER. President Brittany Commins joined in 2023 and, according to the company, led its shift from a spaceflight hardware design firm into a vertically integrated supplier of satellite payload and spacecraft motion-control solutions for LEO, MEO, GEO and lunar programs.

The product line has three families. The Zeta Motor Controller is a cost-focused, radiation-hardened controller for LEO built on the CANopen DS402 standard so that software written for industrial drives can be reused. It measures 38 x 90 mm, communicates over RS-485, RS-422 and CAN, drives BLDC, stepper, brushed DC and PMSM motors, reads Hall sensors, resolvers, thermistors and strain gauges, supports torque, position, velocity and field-oriented control, handles power-off brakes and launch locks, and is rated to 20 krad total ionizing dose. It ships as a development kit, a stand-alone board, a 1-4 axis carrier board or a fully enclosed Motor Controller Assembly; Novium's Astra line uses rad-hard parts for orbit, while functionally identical Terra parts serve ground development. The 2-Axis Gimbal points satellite antennas in LEO, MEO and GEO with +/-30 degree travel on both axes, 0.01 degree accuracy, 31 Nm continuous and 70 Nm peak torque, a 28 VDC supply, Ethernet 100BASE-TX or SpaceWire command interface and a mass of 10 kg. The TerraNova Modular Robotic Arm System is assembled from M-Series modules (TerraFlex servo actuators with integrated controller, brake and slip ring; TerraLink booms, elbows and bases; TerraSense six-axis load cells; and the TerraCore base station) joined by a quick-connect interface that routes power, data and fluid or air internally, allowing configurations from a two-degree-of-freedom positioner to a seven-degree-of-freedom arm with force sensing and computer vision. Via Satellite also reports that Novium builds rovers.

Novium offers custom electromechanical hardware development from concept to flight, rapid prototyping and in-house environmental testing. Its thermal vacuum chamber has a 457 mm cubic volume, -70 to +150 C range and 1.3 mPa vacuum; its shaker delivers 24.4 kN sine and random and 42.7 kN shock, with test reports supporting SSP 41172, MIL-STD-810 and SMC-S-016. The company holds AS9100:2016 (with design) certification, and its website shows NASA, Intuitive Machines, Axiom Space, RTX, Figure and Fugro among the organizations it has worked with.
