Japanese surgical robot maker behind hinotori™, the first made-in-Japan robotic-assisted surgery system, jointly founded by Kawasaki and Sysmex in Kobe.
Medicaroid Corporation is a Kobe-based medical robotics company established in 2013 as a joint venture between Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Sysmex Corporation. The company developed hinotori™, Japan's first domestically produced robotic-assisted surgery system, which received MHLW regulatory approval for urology in August 2020. The system received additional approvals for gastroenterology and gynecology in 2022, and thoracic surgery insurance coverage in June 2024. hinotori™ comprises three units: Surgeon Cockpit, Operation Unit, and Vision Unit.
Its eight-axis robotic arms replicate human arm movements with digitally configured pivot points. The system has expanded internationally, with the first overseas procedure performed at Singapore General Hospital, and CE Mark certification filing submitted in March 2025. Medicaroid employs 201–500 people.
