At the 138th Canton Fair, Shenzhen-based Yuanhua Robotics demonstrated surgical footage from Tibet—showing its KUNWU® robot assisting a knee replacement at 4,000 meters above sea level. The company, founded in 2018, has deployed its systems in over 100 hospitals nationwide and completed more than 5,000 clinical surgeries. As China strives to localize high-end medical devices, Yuanhua’s success signals that “Made-in-China” robotics can now meet global reliability standards. With its independently developed robotic arm, navigation system, and AI control software, Yuanhua is expanding from orthopaedics to gastroenterology and preparing for CE-mark certification in Europe—a calculated step from local validation to global trust.

On the Roof of the World, a Chinese Surgical Robot Proves Its Reliability

At 4,000 meters above sea level in Tibet’s Biru County People’s Hospital, a KUNWU® surgical robot calmly assists a doctor in performing a knee replacement.
Using CT-based 3D modeling, the system automatically plans the bone-cutting path, dynamically corrects deviations in real time, and guides the surgeon with sub-millimeter precision—even in a low-oxygen, high-altitude environment where fatigue and tremor are constant risks.

“Anatomical variations used to be our biggest fear,” said the attending surgeon. “Now, the robot continuously corrects alignment. It’s like having a steady partner who never tires.”

This scene captured the attention of visitors at the 138th Canton Fair, where Yuanhua Robotics’ booth became one of the most discussed in the medical-robotics section.
For an industry still debating whether China can produce globally reliable surgical robots, Yuanhua has delivered empirical proof: more than 5,000 operations performed across over 100 hospitals—from top-tier medical centers to county clinics.

Born From the Operating Room, Not the Office

Founded in 2018, Yuanhua Robotics, Perception and AI Technologies Ltd. is dedicated to the R&D and precision manufacturing of advanced medical robots. It is among the few Chinese companies that fully develop all core components of orthopaedic surgical robots in-house—from mechanical architecture and navigation optics to AI control software.

The KUNWU® system was born from close collaboration with surgeons. Yuanhua’s engineers spent months stationed in orthopaedic departments, observing operations and recording every gesture. Each iteration of its algorithms and UI came directly from intra-operative feedback.

“We didn’t design the robot in an office,” said Meng Li Aili, Yuanhua’s chairwoman and CEO. “We designed it in the operating room.”

That human-machine feedback loop paid off. Data from 5,000 procedures show that KUNWU® improves implant accuracy by 34 percent, reduces postoperative medication use by 30 percent, and cuts inflammatory response by half compared to manual surgery. In 2024, the robot gained new clinical indications, becoming one of China’s first tri-joint (hip-knee-unicondylar) surgical platforms approved as an innovative medical device.

A Platform Approach: From Orthopaedics to Gastroenterology

Yuanhua’s ambitions reach beyond bone and joint surgery. The company has built an integrated product line spanning multiple domains:

  • KUNWU® Robotic Arm — 7 DOF surgical manipulator with adaptive zero-gravity suspension and high-stability mechanics.
  • KUNWU® Navigation & Imaging — infrared optical system with 335 Hz refresh rate for occlusion-free tracking.
  • KUNWU® AI Control — surgical planning and real-time feedback using 30-point registration and safety-boundary constraints.
  • Milvus Wireless Capsule Endoscopy — an active robotic capsule enabling controllable navigation and real-time imaging within the digestive tract.

This end-to-end system embodies Yuanhua’s platform logic: integrating mechanics, vision, and intelligence into a unified clinical ecosystem. It transforms surgical robotics from a single-device product into an AI-driven medical infrastructure.

From “Made in China” to “Trusted Worldwide”

At the Canton Fair, procurement delegates from 30 countries—from Southeast Asia and Africa to Europe and the Americas—flocked to Yuanhua’s booth.
Their questions revealed a mindset shift: no longer “How much does it cost?” but “How much faster do patients recover?” and “How stable are your five-year outcomes?”

A Thai distributor summarized it bluntly: “Five thousand real surgeries say more than any brochure.”

Yuanhua’s next goal is international validation. The company has begun CE clinical evaluations and is partnering with hospitals in 20+ countries to test adaptation under diverse healthcare systems. “Going abroad isn’t about going out,” said Meng. “It’s about being needed.”

By combining technology + training + service, Yuanhua plans to export not just equipment but a turnkey medical-robotics ecosystem—a step toward building global trust in Chinese medtech.

The Bigger Picture: China’s Med-Robot Moment

China’s medical-robotics industry is entering a new maturity phase. Once dismissed as imitators, domestic companies like Yuanhua are now demonstrating systemic reliability—hardware, algorithms, and clinical efficacy combined.
As aging demographics, surgical backlogs, and precision-medicine ambitions reshape global healthcare, the demand for cost-effective, AI-assisted robots will only grow.

For Yuanhua, the next frontier is scaling without compromise—ensuring that every system, from Shenzhen to the Himalayas, performs with the same precision.
If the KUNWU® can maintain its record through 10,000 or 50,000 cases, it will not just be a milestone for the company—it could redefine how the world perceives Chinese innovation in surgical automation.

About Yuanhua Robotics

Yuanhua Robotics, Perception and AI Technologies Ltd., headquartered in Shenzhen, China, specializes in advanced medical robotics and AI-enabled surgical systems. Founded in 2018, the company integrates research, precision manufacturing, and clinical application across orthopaedics, gastroenterology, and endoscopic diagnostics. Its flagship KUNWU® orthopaedic robot and Milvus capsule platform combine proprietary robotic arms, real-time navigation, and intelligent control algorithms. With a multidisciplinary team of engineers and surgeons, Yuanhua emphasizes “medical-engineering fusion,” building its products through extensive operating-room collaboration rather than laboratory isolation. The company is currently expanding globally, pursuing CE and FDA certifications while establishing partnerships with hospitals in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Yuanhua aims to make surgical robotics more accessible, reliable, and tailored to diverse clinical environments—transforming Chinese medical technology from an emerging alternative into a globally trusted standard.
