Company Overview

Kingman Ag is an agricultural autonomy company based at 27981 W Gale Ave in Lemoore, in California's Central Valley. Instead of building a new vehicle, it converts tractors that growers already own so they can operate unattended in permanent crops. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Connor Kingman, a mechanical engineer, together with co-founder Zach Sheely (revenue and strategy) and CFO Mike Betts.

The retrofit kit combines cameras and AI vision for guidance with RTK GPS and a proprietary antenna designed to hold a signal under closed canopy; the company states that it does not use lidar in its current system. Safety equipment includes a physical safety bumper and redundant safety systems with immediate braking. Converted tractors can drive themselves between the shop and the job, return automatically for refuelling or refilling and resume at the last work point, and switch back to manual mode with a toggle. Supported makes are John Deere, New Holland, Kubota, Deutz-Fahr and Fendt, with more announced.

Kingman Ag lists more than 15 automated jobs: spraying, mowing, discing, shredding, sulfur dusting, mechanical weeding, French plowing, seeding, trimming, hedging and sweeping. Target crops are wine grapes, almonds, pistachios, walnuts, citrus, olives, stone and pome fruit, blueberries and agave. The company reports more than 30,000 operating hours in permanent crops over more than five commercial seasons, and a grower testimonial on its site cites one tractor discing 160 acres a day against about 50 acres with a human driver.

The technology has a longer history. In June 2019 the Kingman Driverless Tractor was demonstrated in Ted Sheely's vineyard near Lemoore; at that stage the modified tractor used cameras and lidar and carried an enlarged fuel tank for about 72 hours of operation between refuellings. Kingman Ag is recruiting dealers, starting in California, Oregon and Washington, and is listed as a partner of the Agworld farm-management platform and as an associate member of American Pistachio Growers.
