Inductive Automation is a Folsom, California software company founded in 2003 by Steve Hechtman, the developer of the Ignition industrial automation platform. Ignition includes a Designer environment, a modular structure that lets customers add functionality through modules, and editions such as Ignition Edge for edge devices, Ignition Cloud Edition for cloud deployment, and a free Maker Edition for non-commercial use. Capabilities span alarming and notification, reporting, mobile and web visualization through the Perspective module, power monitoring, enterprise administration and unified namespace data architectures for IIoT. The company supports an ecosystem of certified system integrators, international distributors and third-party module developers, and runs the annual Ignition Community Conference. It also operates Inductive University, a free online training resource, alongside paid training and certification programs.
Beyond its headquarters at 90 Blue Ravine Road in Folsom, the company maintains an office in Australia. Within robotics and automation, Ignition serves as the supervisory control, data and visualization layer that connects PLCs, robots and other plant equipment into monitored, networked manufacturing systems.
