Aberdeen maker of compact ISS360 imaging sonars, altimeters, depth sensors and AHRS for ROVs and AUVs; King's Award for International Trade 2025.
Impact Subsea Ltd is a Scottish company that designs and manufactures compact underwater sensors for ROVs, AUVs and other subsea applications. Its head office and manufacturing site is Silverfield House, Aberdeen Energy Park, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen. The company was incorporated in Scotland on 17 February 2015 (Companies House SC498003) and is registered under SIC 26511, manufacture of electronic measuring and testing equipment. Ben Grant is Managing Director and Alastair Mclennan-Murray is Technical Director. Design, production, calibration and support are all done in-house in Aberdeen, and products are sold directly and through an international distributor network.
The product line covers acoustic imaging, ranging, depth and attitude sensing for underwater vehicles:
In June 2026 the company added two integration products. The seaMux subsea multiplexer is housed in titanium, rated to 6,000 m and has four Ethernet/RS232/RS485 ports with switchable 24 VDC outputs and Ethernet or VDSL telemetry. The Unity topside control system is a 1U, 19-inch rack unit that runs the company's seaView software. seaView, now at version 3.2, is used to view, log, calibrate and configure all Impact Subsea sensors, and software development kits are available for integrators. The company also offers servicing, calibration, upgrades of "Lite" products, pressure-housing design, and training through its Impact Subsea Academy and video guides.
The sensors are used across offshore energy, defence, marine science and environmental monitoring. Published examples include seaView imagery from Blueye Robotics ROVs. In October 2026 the company published a case study from the MIT-WHOI Joint Program, in which an ISS360 on a REMUS-100 AUV at the WHOI Iselin Pier drove an acoustic SLAM navigation pipeline in low visibility and tidal currents. Distribution partners include Oceasian Technology in Guangzhou, appointed in 2024 as the company's first overseas service centre, Spry Technocon in India, Ocean Metrics in Germany, MER Marine Technologies in the Middle East and Shoshin Corporation in Japan.
Impact Subsea runs a business management system certified to ISO 9001:2015. It received the Queen's Award for Enterprise for Innovation in 2021 and the King's Award for Enterprise in International Trade in 2025, when it was one of 116 UK organisations recognised for international trade.
