Human In Motion Robotics Inc. is a medical-robotics company headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia, founded in 2016 by Dr. Siamak Arzanpour and Dr. Edward Park, both professors at Simon Fraser University, following exoskeleton research the pair began there in 2014. The company also maintains a secondary office in Seoul, South Korea, and in 2023 closed a CAD 10 million Series A financing round led by Korean investor Beno Holdings.
Its flagship product, XoMotion, is a lower-limb exoskeleton for people with spinal cord injury, stroke and related mobility impairments. Unlike exoskeletons that require forearm crutches for balance, XoMotion is self-balancing and hands-free, letting the wearer walk without external support. The device is sized for users between 5 feet and 6 feet 4 inches tall and up to 220 pounds, and uses hot-swappable batteries to support continuous rehabilitation sessions. XoMotion is not yet cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration; the company has made the device available for supervised ambulatory training at rehabilitation centers starting in early 2025 and states it is pursuing FDA and EU regulatory clearances.
Human In Motion Robotics holds a Health Canada Medical Devices Establishment License and has begun placing XoMotion units with rehabilitation providers, including a reported first commercial sale in Calgary, Alberta in early 2025.
