German family-owned agricultural machinery maker building autonomous field robots and AI spot-spraying for tillage, seeding and crop care.
Horsch (HORSCH Maschinen GmbH) is a family-owned German manufacturer of agricultural technology founded in 1984 at Sitzenhof near Schwandorf, Bavaria, where its headquarters remain. The company employs roughly 3,200 people worldwide, with over 1,000 at the Schwandorf headquarters, and operates additional sites in Germany plus subsidiaries in Brazil, the USA and other markets. Its core product lines cover tillage, seeding, crop protection and hybrid agriculture, including seed drills, cultivators, planters and the Leeb range of self-propelled and trailed sprayers. Beyond conventional implements, Horsch has invested heavily in autonomy and agricultural robotics.
In 2021 it unveiled the RO 1 autonomous track-mounted traction unit and the Robo autonomous planter equipped with a Trimble navigation system, followed by further autonomous carrier concepts. While Horsch later stepped back from a universal tractor-replacement field robot, judging standard autonomous tractors more practical, it has continued developing autonomous and AI-driven application machinery, including the Gantry RO G 500 autonomous planter concept shown in Brazil. In 2025 Horsch partnered with TTControl to integrate the FusionAI computing platform into its precision-farming systems, powering an AI spot-spraying solution that detects weeds in real time for targeted herbicide application. These efforts place Horsch among the established machinery makers actively pursuing autonomy, machine vision and intelligent application technology for large-scale arable farming.
