Company Overview

Hayes Spraying is an Australian manufacturer of boomsprays, autonomous sprayers, spot-spraying equipment and chemical handling equipment, based at 1 Troy Drive, Goondiwindi, Queensland. The business began in the early 1970s as a contract spraying and consulting operation and reports being the first to mount sprayers on 4WD vehicles. Milestones listed by the company include its first Toyota Landcruiser-mounted 18 m, 1,200 L sprayer in 1976, a manufacturing facility in 1989, its first 24 m manual-fold three-point-linkage sprayer in 1991, Detectspray in 1992 (described as the first Australian weed-detection sprayer), the N-Buggy urea dispenser designed for export to the United States and a first hydraulic-fold three-point-linkage sprayer in 1998. Later milestones include WeedSeeker visual weed detection in 2007, a 50 m trailed boomspray in 2014, WEED-IT spot spraying from 2016, a distribution partnership with Rometron for WEED-IT technology in 2021, and new fabrication facilities in Goondiwindi in 2023.

In 2019 Hayes introduced autonomous trailed sprayers, designing a lightweight sprayer specifically for the SwarmFarm autonomous robot vehicle and co-developing the first tow-behind SwarmConnect sprayers with SwarmFarm Robotics. The current Autonomous Trailed Boomspray range is described as ready for automated tractors and is built lighter to reduce soil compaction and energy use. Boom widths run from 12 m to 27 m, with a 36 m PLC-controlled prototype in field operation, and tank capacities from 1,000 L to 3,000 L (1,500 L standard on the 12 m model and 2,000 L on 18 to 27 m models). Specifications include a 1.5-inch stainless steel Hypro pump, triplex nozzle bodies, fenceline nozzles, optional Raven boom height control, turn compensation, a high-clearance in-crop version and Dock and Fill chemical transfer. Hayes has also tested its Weed Chipper with autonomous platforms.

Other products include trailed, three-point-linkage and channel boomsprays, WEED-IT spot-spraying rigs such as a 36 m trailer with a 6,000 L tank and WEED-IT DASH system, the Weed Chipper in 9 m and 12 m versions, front, bonnet and saddle tractor-mounted tanks, the N-Buggy, and chemical mixing trailers.
