"Wildlife intelligence for infrastructure."
Syracuse/Stockholm maker of Flox Edge, a pole-mounted unit that spots animals with on-device AI and plays species-specific calls to clear runways.
Flox Intelligence makes autonomous devices that keep wild animals off runways, railways, roads, farms and energy sites, without harm. Flox Edge, its shipping product, is a weatherproof pole, fence or tree mount: a PIR array wakes it, a 2 MP camera with infrared illuminators watches day and night, on-device AI identifies species, group size and behaviour, and a speaker up to 100 dB plays a species- and context-specific bioacoustic signal, varied against habituation.
Specifications: under two seconds detection to deterrence; 40 m (131 ft) detection across a 90-degree horizontal field of view at 2 m mounting height; about 1,800 deterrence events per charge, or 12 months monitoring-only; swappable lithium-ion battery, six hours to charge; -30 to +60 C; IP65; 3 kg with mount. Edge works offline and syncs over LTE-M to the Flox Platform for dashboards and reports, e.g. FAA wildlife-hazard reporting. Add-ons: solar panel, mains power, external microphone. Coming soon: Flox Insights, AI analysis of trail-camera and security footage, and Flox Home, a Wi-Fi unit for private land.
Named users: Gerald R. Ford International Airport, Mora Airport (Sweden), the City of Stockholm and several farms; it also cites the U.S. Department of Agriculture, WWF, KWS Group and Boliden. With Alstom it has trialled train-mounted AI detection and sound deterrence on Swedish lines for Tag i Bergslagen, with Vinnova funding.
Flox began in 2020 as a KTH Royal Institute of Technology AI-lab spinoff, founded by CEO Sara Nozkova; Tomas Becklin joined as co-founder about three years later. It announced a US$4 million seed round on 25 February 2026 led by Tilia Impact Ventures, won the US$1 million GENIUS NY grand prize in May 2026 and moved its headquarters to Syracuse, New York, keeping a Stockholm office. Although some press calls Flox a drone startup, its line contains no drone.
Primary type & automation activities this supplier delivers:
Autonomous pole-mounted unit that identifies animals with on-device AI and deters them with species-specific sound.
Web dashboard that collects Flox Edge detections and produces live insights and regulator-ready reports.
AI analysis of footage from trail, wildlife or security cameras into species, behaviour and trend reports.
Smaller, quieter Wi-Fi version of the wildlife deterrent for gardens, yards and private land.
