ENGEL Austria GmbH is a family-owned manufacturer of injection molding machines and automation systems headquartered in Schwertberg, Upper Austria. Ludwig Engel founded the business as a locksmith shop in 1945; it patented its first plastics press in 1948 and launched its first injection molding machine in 1951, and the company has remained privately held by the Engel family throughout its history, with Stefan Engleder chairing the management board since 2016.
The current product range covers electric, hydraulic, and hybrid injection molding machines for thermoplastics, thermosets, and elastomers, alongside linear viper robots and six-axis easix articulated robots for parts handling integrated into the molding cell. Its inject 4.0 software platform adds process monitoring, predictive maintenance, and automated parameter adjustment on top of the machine and robot hardware. ENGEL serves automotive, medical device, packaging, electronics, and technical-parts manufacturers, often supplying complete molding-and-automation cells rather than machines alone.
ENGEL employs approximately 7,000 people worldwide, operates 11 production plants across Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, China, Korea, Mexico, Poland, and India, and reported about 1.4 billion euros in revenue for its 2025/26 fiscal year, with roughly 95 percent of output exported outside Austria.
