Deep Ocean Exploration & Research (DOER Marine), established in 1992 by oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle in Alameda, California, designs and manufactures advanced underwater vehicles and robotic systems. Product lines include science-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), manned submersibles rated for one to ten passengers, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), hydraulic manipulator arms (Sea Mantis 5), hydraulic compensators, and custom mission modules. The company achieved the first ABS dual-classification on a submersible for both research and tourism use, and built the first ABS-classed cinema camera housings for BBC and NHK.
Clients include universities, government agencies, commercial diving firms, nonprofits, filmmakers, and first responders. DOER operates from Hangar 41 of the former Naval Air Station Alameda. The team of 25+ has completed over 200 projects across deep-sea exploration, infrastructure inspection, underwater archaeology, search and recovery, and subsea observatory support.
