Cyan Robotics (Shanghai Qingxin Yichuang Technology Co., Ltd., brand Cyan) is a Shanghai start-up that develops embodied "character" robots. Its products, the full-size humanoid Orca and the character robot Amoo, run on a shared foundation model the company calls Dino OS. The company was founded at the end of 2023 and its core team was assembled in March 2024. The CEO, Dr. Niu Tengdi, holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and previously led autonomous-driving projects at large technology companies; the company says its core team is led by PhD holders from Cambridge and UC Berkeley together with former model scientists from Silicon Valley firms.
Orca I was unveiled in October 2024 after a first prototype built in three months and three further iterations. The company describes it as the first full-size humanoid to walk with straight knees, using an emotional-gait foundation model. Official specifications list a standing size of 1510 x 520 x 280 mm, about 42 kg including battery, and 28 degrees of freedom (6 per arm, 4 per leg, 2 per foot, 1 at the waist and 3 in the head). Each arm handles up to about 5 kg, knee peak torque is 150 Nm, and low-level communication runs at 500-1000 Hz. Compute combines a 14-core CPU with an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano Super module; sensing includes 3D LiDAR, a depth camera, an IMU, a six-microphone ring array and dual joint encoders. Two quick-release 5000 mAh smart batteries give about 2 hours standing or 1 hour walking. Dual-arm manipulation is trained by imitation learning on an end-to-end multimodal model, and the company reports a success rate above 95% for short-horizon dual-arm tasks. Interaction combines an embedded large language model with expressions on a head display.
Orca took part in the 2025 Beijing humanoid robot half-marathon, where the Shanghai government highlighted it as a Shanghai-made entrant. Amoo is a smaller character robot that the company has promoted through brand partnerships such as an Amoo x MGM collaboration. The company reports 57 national patent applications.
