Cropr is a Dutch agricultural robotics company developing autonomous laser-weeding systems for specialty vegetable crops such as onions and carrots. The company emerged from the team behind H2L Robotics, a Dutch robotics firm that previously deployed more than 135 autonomous robots in tulip production for disease detection and selective intervention, giving Cropr a foundation in autonomous operation, plant recognition and targeted intervention. Conceived as an AI-native business rather than an evolution from traditional implements, Cropr combines autonomous navigation, computer vision and laser-based intervention to provide chemical-free weed control.
Its flagship platform uses AI to recognise crops and weeds in real time, then targets weeds with lasers that destroy chlorophyll and eliminate unwanted plants without disturbing soil, aiming to replace manual hand weeding, herbicide applications and repeated mechanical cultivation. The approach addresses structural pressures on European agriculture, including herbicide restrictions, labour shortages in vegetable production, and demand for organic and low-chemical systems. Cropr's competitive advantage derives primarily from its AI models, datasets, recognition accuracy and software iteration speed rather than mechanical-engineering scale. The company is privately held, headquartered in the Netherlands, and remains at startup stage with a reported workforce of roughly 11 to 50 people. Its first autonomous robots reportedly entered Dutch fields in 2026, and the company has begun exploring international expansion, including the US market through participation in Reservoir Farms in California.
