Company Overview

Coratia Technologies Pvt. Ltd. is an Indian underwater robotics company that designs and builds remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous surface vessels (ASVs), and uses them to deliver underwater inspection and survey services. The company was founded in 2021 by Debendra Pradhan (CEO) and Biswajit Swain (CTO), both 2017 mechanical engineering graduates of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela. It grew out of a student project at NIT Rourkela, where the founders won a Ministry of Earth Sciences challenge to build an autonomous underwater robot. Coratia is headquartered at the Foundation for Technology and Business Incubation (FTBI) on the NIT Rourkela campus in Odisha, with offices at IIIT Bangalore in Bengaluru and at O-HUB in Bhubaneswar. Press reports put its team at roughly 32 to 34 people.

The product line has four vehicles. Jaladuta is a 150 m-rated ROV for underwater cleaning, inspection, surveys and minor salvage; it carries cleaning mechanisms to remove biofouling and debris from ship hulls and other submerged surfaces. Jalasimha is the next-generation ROV, rated to 300 m, with a stereovision imaging system, an integrated dexterous robotic arm, and non-destructive testing payloads including an ultrasonic thickness gauge and a laser scaler for quantifying corrosion and defects. Oceanaus is a compact 150 m inspection ROV with a Full HD 1080p camera, high-intensity LED lighting and depth, heading and positioning sensors. Navya is an ASV with a dual-frequency echosounder, a 360-degree omnidirectional video system, and manual and autopilot modes with dynamic positioning, used for hydrographic and bathymetric surveys, water-quality monitoring, fisheries management and security patrols. Across the range the company highlights 4K stereo cameras for turbid water, multibeam sonar, GPS, USBL and DVL integration, six degrees of freedom and tethered power for unlimited endurance.

Coratia's service business applies these platforms to dams (sluice gates, intakes and spillways), bridges (pier and pile inspection and scour analysis), ports and ships (hull, propeller and steel-structure inspection, sonar and bathymetric survey), offshore oil and gas platforms and pipelines (corrosion monitoring and ultrasonic thickness measurement), subsea cables, and industrial pipes and tanks. It also offers AI-based defect identification and quantification, and computational fluid dynamics studies. Named customers include the Indian Navy, Indian Railways, Steel Authority of India (including the Rourkela Steel Plant), Tata Steel, Hindalco, Indian Oil Corporation, NINL and the National Institute of Oceanography.

In September 2025 Coratia signed a Rs 66 crore contract with the Indian Navy to supply and maintain indigenous underwater remotely operated vehicles (UWROVs). Some reports also list the Navya ASV under the same deal. The company had earlier won the Ministry of Defence's iDEX DISC-7 challenge in 2022. Other recognitions include Boeing BUILD 3.0 (2024), Cochin Shipyard's USHUS programme (2024), a top-10 place in NASSCOM Emerge 50 (2024), the national round of Meet the Drapers India (2024), MeitY TIDE 2.0 and DST NIDHI Prayas (2023), and an appearance on Shark Tank India season 3.

In July 2025 Coratia raised more than Rs 17 crore (about USD 2 million) in a pre-Series A round from MGF Kavachh, a SEBI-registered Category II AIF, and Pontaq Ventures. In November 2025 it added Rs 5 crore in a round led by Piper Serica Angel Fund, bringing disclosed funding to about Rs 22 crore. The company has also received government grants from MeitY, NGIS, DST and Startup Odisha, and was incubated at FTBI NIT Rourkela and STPI Bhubaneswar. Its stated roadmap includes more advanced AUVs, sonar systems and swarm technologies.
