BRAUN Maschinenbau GmbH is a family-run German manufacturer of soil cultivation and under-vine weed control implements for viticulture and fruit growing, and the developer of the Vineyard Pilot Assistant (VPA), a laser-based system that automatically positions implements along the vine row. The company was founded in 1958 by Stefan Braun Senior in a former village forge in Burrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate. Stefan Braun Junior joined management in 1994 from Mannesmann-Rexroth and has been managing director since 2002. Headquarters and production moved to a new building of about 3,000 square meters in Landau in der Pfalz, officially opened in 2016; the site grew to 12,500 square meters by 2017, and a further production and warehouse hall of nearly 3,000 square meters was started in 2019. That year the company also founded the wholly owned subsidiary Braun Macchine Agricole in Trento, Italy. First overseas deliveries date from 1980.

The VPA uses an Autonomy Kit consisting of a front-mounted laser and a position sensor to build a three-dimensional profile of the row. The VPA software creates a virtual image of the row, combines it with the tractor speed signal and drives a hydraulic block that moves BRAUN modular implements in the rear and inter-axle positions around each vine stock, according to driver-set lift-out distance and working depth. Results are shown in real time on a monitor, and working speeds of up to 14 km/h are stated. The optional Row Crop Pilot (RCP) adds automatic tractor steering inside the row: the driver activates it before entering, the system detects the row end, and the driver takes over for the headland turn. VPA users receive two years of the Vineyard Cloud app for planning, real-time tracking and documentation. The VPA has received recognition at Vinetech SIFEL 2018, FIMA 2020, Premio Innovazione 2020 and Agritechnica.

The conventional range includes the LUV Perfekt and LUV Modular spoon-share under-vine cultivators (introduced 1983 and 2013), a roll hoe, a disc plough, the W1 and W2 vine trunk cleaners, the Vario pre-cultivator, the UKR universal cultivator frame, ActiRoll Uno and Duo cover-crop rollers, Alpha 2000 and Sensotronic mulchers, and a rotary harrow with seed drill. Reference users include wineries in the Pfalz and Franken regions of Germany and Felton Road in Central Otago, New Zealand.
