Direct Drive Technology (Benmo) is a China-based maker of direct-drive robot actuators and wheeled-legged robots TITA and Diablo, now pursuing an HKEX listing.
Direct Drive Technology, known in China as Benmo Technology, is a Dongguan-based robotics component and robot manufacturer founded in Hong Kong in 2018 before relocating its main operations to the Songshan Lake High-tech Development Zone in Dongguan, Guangdong in 2019. The company's core technology is the direct-drive joint actuator, which combines a high-torque-density motor, encoder and control electronics into a single integrated module that eliminates the mechanical reduction gearbox found in conventional robot joints, aiming to reduce backlash, noise and maintenance points while increasing power density.
The company sells its direct-drive modules, including the M6, M11, M15 and M1502 series, as components to other robot and equipment manufacturers for use in household cleaning robots, AGV/AMR platforms, inspection robots and commercial fitness equipment, where the modules replace traditional stacked weight plates with programmable resistance. Beyond supplying components, Direct Drive Technology builds its own complete wheeled-legged robots using these actuators, including the TITA quadruped robot and the Diablo wheeled-legged robot, sold to research, education and entertainment customers, with the Xingtian and D1 series extending the wheeled-legged robot lineup.
Since a Pre-A funding round led by 5Y Capital in 2020, the company has raised additional Series B and Series B+ rounds totaling hundreds of millions of RMB, led by the Beijing Advanced Manufacturing and Intelligent Equipment Industry Investment Fund with co-investment from the Beijing New Materials Industry Investment Fund, Shunxi Fund and Legend Star. In July 2026, the company passed its Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing hearing, a step toward becoming a publicly listed robotics component and robot manufacturer. The company describes itself as already profitable with multi-year revenue growth, reports shipping its robot products to customers in more than 50 countries, and holds over 100 patents related to its direct-drive technology.
Direct Drive Technology differentiates itself from general-purpose robot manufacturers by focusing specifically on eliminating reduction gearboxes across multiple robot form factors and non-robotic applications such as fitness equipment, air purifiers and washing machines, applying one core actuator technology across a deliberately broad set of end markets rather than specializing in a single robot category. Its R&D team numbers more than 150 people, and the company holds ISO quality management certification for its manufacturing operations.
