Radeberg, Germany machine-vision unit of Switzerland's Baumer Group, founded 1997; makes industrial and smart cameras for automated inspection.
Baumer Optronic GmbH is the machine-vision unit of the Baumer Group, a Swiss family-owned sensor and automation manufacturer headquartered in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. The Radeberg, Saxony site was founded in 1997 and became the group's center for camera-based image processing technology; Dr. Oliver Vietze, who later became chief executive and chairman of Baumer Group, has been closely associated with building the business from its early years.
The Radeberg operation develops and manufactures industrial cameras, smart cameras, and vision sensors based on CMOS and CCD image sensors, sold under the Baumer name for automated optical inspection, quality control, and production-line monitoring. Applications span automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical manufacturing, and the site also provides OEM engineering for camera components built to customer specification.
As part of the wider Baumer Group, which employs roughly 2,800 people across sites in about 19 countries, Baumer Optronic draws on group-wide sales and service coverage while keeping camera research, development, and production concentrated in Radeberg. The Radeberg site marked its 20th anniversary as a machine-vision business in 2017.
