AGADE srl is an Italian startup incorporated in 2020 in Milan, originating from a research project at the Politecnico di Milano (Department of Mechanical Engineering) on assistive exoskeletons for people with muscular dystrophy. The founding team — Lorenzo Aquilante (CEO), Sofia Paganelli (Lead Firmware Engineering), Daniele Ramirez (COO), and Mattia Tabaglio (CTO) — patented the core AGADE technology (Anti-Gravity Active Device for Exoskeletons) in 2019 after winning the university's Switch2Product competition in 2018. The company was formally incorporated in 2020 following a seed investment round with 360 Capital Partners and Genera Imprese.
AGADE develops semi-active industrial exoskeletons that use a hybrid active-passive proprietary actuation system combined with sensors and artificial intelligence to provide targeted physical support during manual material handling tasks. The technology is designed to reduce electrical energy consumption by approximately 10 times compared to conventional electric motor-driven exoskeletons while delivering meaningful ergonomic benefit.
The company's commercial product line, branded AGADEXO, includes two models: the AGADEXO Shoulder, launched to market in 2024 and validated to reduce muscular effort at shoulder level by up to 40%, with ESO-EAWS ergonomic certification; and the AGADEXO Lowback, designed to relieve stress on the lumbar spine during lifting and lowering of heavy loads. Both products activate automatically via onboard sensors when the operator picks up a load.
In 2021, AGADE was selected by the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator for funding of up to €8.3 million. In 2023, the company closed a €4 million Series A investment round backed by Cysero, 360 Capital Partners, the EIC Fund, CDP Venture Capital, Brembo, and Genera Imprese.
