Company Overview

Advanced Protection Systems S.A. (APS) is a Polish defence technology company in Gdynia that develops and manufactures counter-drone systems. Its products are built around its own 3D MIMO radar technology. The project began in 2015, founded by Dr. Maciej Klemm, who leads the company as President and CEO, and Dr. Radoslaw Piesiewicz, who served as COO. The Polish government's defence-industry catalogue says APS's technology is developed in-house, manufactured in Poland and free of ITAR restrictions. In August 2023 the private equity fund Enterprise Investors Fund IX took a significant minority stake, with acquisition financing from Bank Pekao. By March 2026 Defence24 reported nearly 200 specialists at the company and a planned investment of about PLN 100 million in a new production hall in the Kaszubia Green Industrial Zone. APS's head office is at Plac Kaszubski 8/311 in Gdynia, and it has a second Gdynia site and a Warsaw office.

The company's flagship is SKYctrl, a scalable, modular counter-UAS system that detects, tracks, classifies and neutralises drones. It comes in a portable version for fast set-up (SKYctrl S), a mobile version, and a containerised version (SKYctrl L) for vehicle or field use. The sensor core is the FIELDctrl family of 3D MIMO radars for small, low-flying objects. The family includes Advance for close-range protection, Range, Runway, Ultra SR, Ultra LR for maximum detection range, and Follow. SKYctrl can add passive RF detectors and electro-optical cameras, along with soft-kill effectors such as RF jammers and hard-kill effectors such as small-calibre guns, machine guns or lasers. All of this is managed by the CyView C2 software, which uses machine learning to tell drones from birds and give real-time threat reports.

At MSPO in September 2024 APS showed an interceptor drone for SKYctrl. Guided by radar and video tracking, it autonomously finds hostile UAVs and destroys them by collision, without explosives. Several interceptors can work as a group, sharing targets to counter drone swarms. APS has also teamed with MSI on the Terrahawk Paladin, a networked system that combines its 3D radars with kinetic and non-kinetic effectors.

SKYctrl S is used by the Polish Armed Forces and the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and APS products have been used in Ukraine against Russian drones. Other civil and military users run SKYctrl components at airports, seaports (including the Port of Gdynia), power plants, refineries, telecom sites and other critical infrastructure. APS also markets to border protection, public events and public administration.

APS has a major role in SAN, Poland's national anti-drone shield. In January 2026 the Polish Armaments Agency signed a contract worth about NOK 16 billion with a consortium of Kongsberg and Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ). As a subcontractor to PGZ, APS supplies the SanView command-and-control system. SanView fuses data from short- and medium-range radars, passive RF detectors and electro-optical sensors, coordinates kinetic and non-kinetic effectors, and links SAN into Polish air defence. APS also provides FIELDctrl 3D MIMO Ultra and Follow radars and interceptor drones for SAN, alongside Kongsberg remote weapon stations firing 70 mm guided rockets and gun systems. APS holds an Interior Ministry (MSWiA) licence for its activities (B-087/2018) and has received research funding from Poland's National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) and EU funds.
