FREENOW, a European mobility platform owned by Lyft, has partnered with Baidu’s Apollo Go to initiate robotaxi testing in London, UK. This deployment signifies the first instance of a Chinese autonomous vehicle conducting real-world road tests in London's intricate traffic conditions, with Uber also confirming the operation of Apollo Go vehicles on public roads. The significance of this development lies in Apollo Go's expansion into right-hand-drive markets, following its initial launch in Hong Kong. The test fleet will utilize Apollo RT6 robotaxis, which will have safety operators on board during the trials. Initial testing will occur in Brent, a borough of London that features both urban and suburban driving environments. Looking ahead, FREENOW and Apollo Go aim to start offering rides to the public in 2027.
