Company Overview

Yamaha Agriculture, Inc. is the agriculture company of Japan's Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. It was announced in February 2025 as a US-based business when Yamaha Motor acquired New Zealand's Robotics Plus Ltd. and Australia's The Yield Technology Solutions, and it targets specialty crop growers, mainly of wine grapes and apples, in North America, Australia and New Zealand. Nolan Paul is group CEO. Yamaha Motor had backed Robotics Plus since 2017; the Tauranga company, which had about 130 employees at the time of the deal, kept its headquarters, jobs and intellectual property. Robotics Plus co-founders Steve Saunders and Dr Alistair Scarfe continued in leadership roles.

The main robotic product is Prospr, an autonomous multi-purpose vehicle for orchards and vineyards. Prospr uses a hybrid-electric drivetrain with an onboard Tier 4 diesel generator and about 50 kW of drive output. Official dimensions are 5,240 x 1,950 x 3,600 mm with a vehicle weight of 2,000 kg without payload; it needs at least 1.85 m row spacing and a 7.1 m headland. Navigation fuses precision RTK GPS with lidar and camera sensors, and the platform runs all day. Prospr Attachments are modular, quick-swap tools, including tower sprayers for grapes, apples and other tree crops, so one machine can handle spraying and weed control, with mowing planned.

The second line is aerial application. The FAZER R unmanned helicopter is offered for precision spraying and crop monitoring. Yamaha Motor reports that its unmanned agricultural helicopters are used on rice paddies in Japan, with more than 2,200 units covering about 800,000 hectares a year, and are also applied to wine grapes, invasive weeds, tree fruit and sugar cane. In the United States a spray service team based in Napa, California carries out fungicide applications for Napa and Sonoma vineyards.

Data products come from The Yield, with which Yamaha signed a joint development agreement in 2021. Its AI Crop Prediction tools forecast yields and grape volumes for harvest and operational planning, and Yamaha Agriculture plans to combine these analytics with Prospr operations. Robotics Plus also brought packhouse and forestry automation, including the Aporo automated fruit packer and a robotic log scaler for trucks and trains. Customers are served through dealers in the United States, Australia and New Zealand, with service and support, an ROI calculator and demo requests offered online.
