WISPR Systems is a commercial unmanned aircraft system (UAS) manufacturer headquartered in Batesville, Mississippi, with additional operations in Nesbit and Corinth, MS. Co-founded in 2017 by Conor Ferguson and Austin Ratcliffe—both Electrical Engineering graduates from Mississippi State University's Bagley College of Engineering—the company designs, engineers, and assembles all its drones entirely in the United States. WISPR initially focused on RF and telecommunications deployments before expanding into broader commercial sUAS markets in 2020. The flagship product, the SkyScout 2 Series, is a professional-grade quadcopter available in two configurations: the base SkyScout 2 (with Herelink flight controller) and the premium SkyScout 2+ (equipped with the WISPR SkyBoss Smart Controller featuring a 7-inch 2000-nit MIL-STD-810/IP55-rated display and AES-256 encryption). The SkyScout 2+ has been added to both the AUVSI Green UAS Approved List and the DCMA Blue UAS Cleared List, making it eligible for U.S. government and DoD procurement programs.
Key technical features include: RTK/PPK centimeter-level positioning, approximately 30 minutes of flight time with payload, hot-swappable smart batteries with built-in BMS, TempGuard dynamic climate control for extreme environments, PathGuard long-range obstacle avoidance (up to 164 ft), and SignalShield EMI protection.
The drone supports a broad payload ecosystem including the Sony ILX-LR1 61MP full-frame camera, WISPR 24MP Mapper, methane detector, and RESEPI LiDAR systems via an S-Port quick-attach interface. The company serves industries including land surveying, telecommunications, utilities, infrastructure inspection, construction, and government/public safety. WISPR can be deployed in under three minutes and withstands winds up to 50 MPH.
