Company Overview

Weibel Scientific A/S is a Danish developer and manufacturer of Doppler radar systems, headquartered at Solvang 30 in Alleroed, north of Copenhagen. The business traces back to M.P. Weibel, an electronics company founded in 1936 that focused on optical detectors; in 1977 Erik Tingleff Larsen established Weibel Scientific A/S and refocused it on Doppler radar and digital signal processing. Milestones listed by the company include the first Doppler radar system using fast Fourier transform processing and micro-strip array antennas (1984), the first tracking radar delivered to the U.S. Department of Defense (1988), entry into the aerospace sector (2000) and ballistic missile defence (2012). Weibel describes itself as family-owned; the owners named on its history page are Chairman Thomas Oiseth Munkholm and Tina Munkholm Larsen Moller. Peter Hergett Ropke, formerly CEO of RTX, joined as CEO in 2024.

According to company figures, Weibel has delivered more than 6,000 radars operated in over 40 countries, exports more than 99% of its output and has been ISO certified since 2005. In fiscal 2025/26 revenue reached DKK 903 million, 10% above the prior year, with EBITDA of DKK 115 million and development spending of DKK 106 million; headcount rose 32% from 460 to 609 employees. Besides the Danish headquarters and development facilities, Weibel has a sales and service office in the United States and a development office in Norway.

The company's traditional business is instrumentation radar for test ranges: muzzle velocity measurement for artillery and mortars, 3D and phased-array tracking radars, multi-sensor platforms, transponder solutions, space-launch range safety and space situational awareness, plus tracking radars for ballistic missile defence. A recent example is a contract to supply C-band instrumentation radars to the U.S. Army.

Counter-UAS and short range air defence are Weibel's fastest-growing segment, built on the XENTA product family. XENTA-C is a civil and security line of X-band CW-FMCW 3D digital-array drone detection radars designed to detect, track and classify low, slow and small targets. It is offered as the low-power XENTA-C1 and high-power XENTA-C3, with drone detection and classification at ranges up to about 5 km and 10 km respectively, 360-degree coverage, 30-degree elevation coverage, a high update rate, a low false-track rate and an ASTERIX interface for integration with C2 and unmanned traffic management systems. Typical uses are critical infrastructure protection, mobile perimeter monitoring, border security and UTM.

XENTA-M is the military variant for ground-based air defence. It provides 360-degree azimuth by 60-degree elevation coverage, IFF support, an instrumented range of 75 km and detection of everything from small drones to helicopters, fighters and missiles. A Weibel-specific stop-and-stare mode turns the antenna to lock on and track a target closely enough to act as a fire-control radar for guns and missiles, and the radar can be mounted on vehicles, semi-mobile or fixed installations. In December 2025 the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) ordered four XENTA-M5 radars for the Danish Army 1st Brigade's very short range air defence capability; they will be mounted on Rheinmetall all-terrain vehicles, integrated with Terma command-and-control systems, and delivered from late 2027 into 2028. Weibel has also announced a follow-on order for two additional 47dB radar systems for an Asian defence programme.

Weibel provides service agreements, upgrades, overhauls, spare parts, mission support and training for its installed base. The company does not make drones or robots; its role in military robotics is as a radar sensor supplier for detecting and tracking uncrewed aircraft.
