Vietnam's first humanoid robot company, a Vingroup subsidiary founded Jan 2025, developing general-purpose bipedal robots for industrial and commercial use.
VinMotion Joint Stock Company, formally VinMotion General Purpose Humanoid Robots Application, Development and Research JSC, is Vietnam's pioneering humanoid robotics company, established in January 2025 as a subsidiary of Vingroup — one of Southeast Asia's largest diversified conglomerates. Vingroup holds a 51% controlling stake and provided charter capital of VND 1 trillion (approximately $39–40 million USD). The company was co-founded by robotics scientist Quan Nguyen, who serves as Chairman and Chief Scientific Officer and holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, with research experience at the University of Southern California.
VinMotion's core mission is to develop general-purpose humanoid robots capable of operating in factories, warehouses, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and eventually household settings. The company developed its first prototype — the Motion_1 bipedal humanoid robot — in just three months after its formal establishment, publicly debuting it in mid-2025. Motion_1 is designed for light-duty industrial tasks such as material transport, visual inspection, and basic assembly support on factory floors, with initial deployment targeting VinFast electric vehicle manufacturing facilities within the Vingroup ecosystem.
A second-generation robot, Motion_2, was subsequently unveiled with a more refined mechanical design and improved capabilities. VinMotion benefits from cross-ecosystem collaboration with sister companies including VinAI (artificial intelligence), VinBigdata (data analytics), and VinFast (electric vehicles), allowing rapid iteration and real-world testing environments. The company had plans to open an office in Southern California in 2026 to accelerate development and international deployment of its industrial humanoids.
VinMotion represents Vietnam's national entry into the global humanoid robot race, directly competing with established players from the United States, China, and Europe.
