"Space born, Earth bound"
Varda Space Industries is a US in-space manufacturing company that produces pharmaceuticals in microgravity orbit and returns them to Earth via reentry capsule.
Varda Space Industries is an American private company founded in January 2021 by Will Bruey, a former SpaceX electrical engineer, and Delian Asparouhov, a partner at Founders Fund. Headquartered in El Segundo, California, Varda designs and operates spacecraft that manufacture small-molecule pharmaceutical crystals in microgravity, where the absence of gravity enables crystal formation that is difficult or impossible on Earth. The company's W-series spacecraft, built on Rocket Lab's Photon platform, host a pressurized processing capsule and a hypersonic reentry vehicle.
Varda successfully returned its first capsule to Earth at the Utah Test and Training Range in February 2024, and its second capsule landed at the Koonibba Test Range in South Australia in February 2025. The company raised a $187 million Series C in 2025, achieving unicorn status. Varda's customers include the U.S. Air Force and pharmaceutical partners investigating microgravity drug formulation.
