"Designed to have identity, built to be perfect"
Ankara maker of armed ULAQ USVs: the 11 m PSV/ADW, 12 m ASuW and 6.37 m KAMA attack boat; spun out of ARES Shipyard and Meteksan Defence in 2025.
ULAQ Global is a Turkish developer and manufacturer of unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for naval and maritime-security customers. Its registered trade name is ULAQ Global Otonom Sistemler A.S., a joint stock company registered with the Ankara Trade Registry. Headquarters are in Bilkent Cyberpark in the Cankaya district of Ankara. The ULAQ programme began as a partnership between ARES Shipyard and Meteksan Defence, which jointly promoted the ULAQ name instead of their own brands. At the IDEF 2025 exhibition in Istanbul in July 2025, the partners announced that the USV family would continue under a newly established company, ULAQ Global, dedicated only to ULAQ products. Trade press described the new company as formally independent but financed and managed by people from ARES and Meteksan.
The company's timeline starts in 2020, when the ULAQ programme was launched as Turkey's first armed USV project and the anti-surface warfare (ASuW) prototype was unveiled. In 2021 it carried out live-fire qualification tests with Roketsan's laser-guided Cirit missiles. ULAQ describes this as the first salvo missile firing from a USV in a real naval exercise. The company says ULAQ platforms entered operational service with the Turkish Naval Forces from 2022 for port protection, ISR and coastal patrol. In 2024 Qatar's Ministry of Interior ordered a ULAQ-11 Port Security Vessel under a QAR 21.3 million (about USD 5.85 million) contract signed at Milipol Qatar. It was reported as Turkey's first USV export.

ULAQ says its vessels offer COLREG-compliant autonomous navigation, dynamic route planning in congested and shallow waters, secure line-of-sight and beyond-line-of-sight communications, and man/unmanned teaming. Interfaces comply with NATO STANAG 4817 for integration with command-and-control systems. The in-house autonomy software has eight layers covering mission execution, situational awareness, propulsion and vessel systems, communications, data handling, operator interfaces and swarm coordination. The company claims a 90% domestic content rate and describes itself as an SSB-approved defence industry manufacturer.
Beyond selling vessels, ULAQ sells autonomy instrumentation kits to shipyards and prime contractors. It also offers "autonomy conversion" of existing manned craft, with ULAQ acting as autonomy provider and integrator, and transfer of technology for partner-nation production. A service model called ULAQ as a Service (UAAS) covers jobs such as target towing, damage assessment and survey, with ULAQ or customer operators. Operator and maintenance training, including simulator courses, and integrated logistics support complete the offering. The company publishes a technical article series on anti-drone warfare by Rear Admiral (Ret.) Hasan Ozyurt.
