THK Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of linear motion and mechatronic components headquartered in Shibaura, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Founded in April 1971 as Toho Seiko by Hiroshi Teramachi and renamed THK in 1984 (for Toughness, High Quality, Know-how), the company listed over the counter in 1989 and on the Tokyo Stock Exchange First Section in 2001, trading under securities code 6481. Takashi Teramachi has been president since January 2024.
In April 1972 THK launched the LM Guide, the first linear motion guide to use rolling contact. The range covers LM Guides, ball splines, ball screws, cross roller rings and electric actuators, which serve as the motion axes in industrial robots, machine tools, semiconductor equipment, medical devices and aerospace systems. THK also produces mechatronics products, including OMNIedge sensor-equipped motion components sold as a manufacturing service, automobile parts such as suspension components, and seismic isolation systems for buildings and data centers.
THK operates plants in Japan, the Americas, Europe and Asia and sells through subsidiaries and sales offices worldwide. The transport equipment business, expanded through the 2007 acquisition of Rhythm and the 2015 purchase of TRW Automotive's European and North American suspension business, is being restructured as the company refocuses on its core industrial products.
