Leuville-sur-Orge, France maker of AsperCut, an electric/hybrid robot that finds asparagus with 3D AI vision and cuts up to 20 green spears per minute.
Sylektis is a French agricultural robotics company (SAS, share capital EUR 223,068, RCS Evry 889 369 963) headquartered in Leuville-sur-Orge in the Essonne department. It designs, manufactures and sells harvesting robots, starting with AsperCut, which it presents as France's first robotic asparagus harvester. The company was founded by Wilfried Garrigue and Stephane Abraham, both from industrial rather than agricultural backgrounds; the project started in 2020.
AsperCut is a straddle tool carrier with a harvesting robot and an AI module. A 3D AI-based detection system locates each spear; the machine stops, cuts the spear in one motion and places it in a crate, with a patented tool designed to handle slightly twisted spears. It moves autonomously along the beds and halts at the end of a row so an operator can exchange crates. The platform can carry up to two robots, one for white and one for green asparagus, and Sylektis has worked with Fanuc on the green asparagus module.
Published specifications: harvest rates of up to 9 white asparagus per minute (up to 12 in other company material) and up to 20 green asparagus per minute; dimensions of 400 cm long, 250 cm wide and 220 cm high; weight of about 3.5 tonnes; 2- or 4-wheel drive and 2- or 4-wheel steering; fully electric operation for 8 to 10 hours, or unlimited operation with the hybrid power option, allowing harvesting day and night. The company sizes one machine for up to 4 to 8 hectares of white asparagus or about 6 hectares of green asparagus, and claims a CO2 reduction of 9 tonnes per year per machine.
Maxime Pallin, a grower in the Medoc region, tested AsperCut prototypes over three seasons, and the company scheduled 2026 field demonstrations in the Medoc and in Bavaria, Germany. Sales were planned through local tractor dealers. The project has been supported by France 2030 / Programme d'Investissements d'Avenir and France Relance, with backing shown from Bpifrance, NextGenerationEU and Reseau Entreprendre Essonne. In February 2024 Sylektis raised a funding round from the angel networks AgriAngels and Ouest Angels and from Le Mans Sarthe Investissement. The company is also developing other tools to be carried by the AsperCut carrier.
