Hangzhou AI-satellite maker co-developing CHERI, two AI-driven micro lunar rovers for Chang'e-8, with Zhejiang University and Turkey's METU.
STAR.VISION is a Hangzhou-based commercial space company that designs and builds AI-enabled satellites and offers space-computing and remote-sensing data services. Its operating company, Di Wei Er Space Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., was incorporated on 31 March 2021. Its website is published by STAR.VISION Aerospace Group Limited, and Hangzhou press reports say a related company was registered in Hong Kong. Founder and CEO Wen Zhuoming is a former vice president of ZTE and a former deputy director of Zhejiang University's micro-satellite research center. The company is headquartered on the 4th floor of Building 2, Penghui Park, Yunqi Town, Xihu District, Hangzhou. According to 36Kr, it closed a Pre-A round of more than RMB 100 million in May 2022, with investors including Zhejiang Energy-linked and Hangzhou municipal investment funds.
Its satellite line-up includes the WonderJourney optical series, WonderExplore SAR series and WonderLink broadband and IoT series. These are built around its STRING ('Light String') onboard AI computing unit, which it unveiled with an intelligent CubeSat at the UNISEC Nano-Satellite Symposium in South Africa in November 2024. Its current hyperspectral satellite is advertised with a 300 km swath, 22 spectral bands, 400 TOPS of onboard computing and sub-10 m geolocation accuracy. The company also sells data, AI models and a multi-modal processing platform. Hangzhou media credit it with building Oman's first satellite and say its solutions have been delivered to more than 40 countries. In April 2026, CNSA selected an AI-enabled spectrometer payload from the company for the Tianwen-3 Mars orbiter.
The company's robotics work centres on CHERI (Chang'e-8 Smart Lunar Exploration Robots). STAR.VISION is co-developing CHERI with Zhejiang University and Middle East Technical University (METU) in Turkey. The project consists of two AI-driven micro lunar exploration robots that will explore and map the lunar south-pole region and demonstrate robot collaboration on the surface. CNSA selected the proposal as a Chang'e-8 international cooperation project, and STAR.VISION announced its role in January 2025. CNSA's list of ten selected payloads, published on 24 April 2025, names METU's intelligent exploration robots for challenging environments. At METU, Assoc. Prof. Halil Ersin Soken is chief design engineer and principal investigator. STAR.VISION describes itself as the first Chinese private company to take part in China's lunar exploration programme as a responsible entity. In November 2025, Zhejiang University presented a prototype of the micro lunar exploration robot at its Zijingang campus. Insta360 is providing imaging technology for the robots. STAR.VISION says the robots will reach the Moon in 2028, while CNSA puts the Chang'e-8 launch at around 2029. Chang'e-8's lander offers about 200 kg of payload capacity for international cooperation, with each independent module limited to 100 kg.
