"Sensor-based solutions for precision agriculture"
Trento-based Italian-Austrian maker of optical sensor kits that switch sprayer nozzles by canopy and weed detection; unified with Optronia GmbH in 2025.
Spray Logics develops sensor-based precision spraying systems for orchards, vineyards and weed control. The brand is operated by two companies, Spray Logics srl in Trento, Italy, and Optronia GmbH in Innsbruck, Austria, which was unified under the Spray Logics name in January 2025; Nicola Baldo is CEO of both. Optronia, the Austrian creator of the technology, works with near-infrared optical sensing and AI-based detection.
The product range has three lines. The orchard and vineyard system uses eight compact infrared sensing units that recognize plant shape and parts such as leaves, flowers, fruit and trunk, and it controls the sprayer nozzles according to the detected leaf volume. It is designed to work in any lighting conditions, needs no calibration and can be installed on existing sprayers; field evaluation was carried out with Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK), which reported an average reduction of about 50% in plant protection product use, and the sensor was announced as commercially available in late 2025. The weed detection line is a spot-spraying system whose near-infrared sensors separate soil from vegetation with centimeter-level accuracy and open nozzles only over weeds; it retrofits onto existing equipment, and tests run with Josephinum Research through the agrifoodTEF Austrian node validated chemical savings of up to 90% at working speeds up to 30 km/h. A third line provides animal detection to protect wildlife during field operations. The company's own figures cite real-time detection at 25 km/h and 50% efficiency gains.
Alongside the hardware, Spray Logics describes data services that complete the field logbook automatically, produce orchard and vineyard maps showing plant health, stress or disease, plan treatments from forecast models and weather sensors, and monitor contamination risk near surface water and homes. Optronia exhibited at Agritechnica, and Spray Logics holds Italian patent application IT202100022406A1 for a crops operational management system.
