"Make sound insightful"
Eindhoven TU/e spinoff (2009) making 64-mic acoustic cameras; CAM iV64 visualizes sound sources for industrial maintenance and product development.
Sorama is an Eindhoven-based Dutch technology company founded in 2009 as a spin-off from the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). The company was founded by Rick Scholte, who developed the core acoustic visualization technology during his research at TU/e. Sorama operates in Eindhoven's innovation ecosystem—part of the Brainport Eindhoven high-tech region—and employs approximately 100 people. TU/e holds a participation in Sorama Holding.
Sorama's core product line is acoustic cameras—instruments that make sound visible by combining microphone arrays with beamforming signal processing and software, enabling engineers to rapidly locate and analyze sound sources without requiring deep acoustics expertise. The flagship Sorama CAM iV64 features 64 MEMS microphones arranged in an optimized sunflower pattern, performs at Class 1 sound level meter accuracy, and displays localized sound levels on a 7-inch touch display, covering frequencies from audio to ultrasonic bands. The CAM iV64Ex is an ATEX-certified variant for use in hazardous, explosive environments. The CAM iV64s is a compact model optimized for gas and compressed air leak detection and partial discharge inspection, with beamforming coverage from 2 kHz to 120 kHz. The earlier CAM64 (16×16 cm array of 64 microphones, with integrated HD video) targets near- and far-field NVH product development with beamforming from 300 Hz to 20 kHz.
The Sorama Portal is a web-based software platform for in-depth acoustic analysis, connecting to camera hardware to deliver visualization that removes the need for acoustics expertise from maintenance or quality engineers. Application domains include industrial maintenance (predictive maintenance, gas and compressed air leak detection, mechanical anomaly inspection, partial discharge detection), product development and NVH testing, and smart venue applications. Sorama serves customers across manufacturing, energy, automotive, and facilities management sectors globally.
