Company Overview

Sion Power Corporation is a privately held American battery technology company headquartered at 2900 E. Elvira Rd., Tucson, Arizona 85756.

Founded in 1989 as Moltech, a spin-off from Brookhaven National Laboratory, the company has spent over 30 years developing advanced lithium-metal battery chemistry. Its core innovation is the proprietary Licerion® platform, which uses a metallic lithium anode (applied via vapor deposition) rather than conventional graphite, enabling energy densities of up to 510 Wh/kg — roughly 1.5–2× the practical ceiling of current lithium-ion batteries (approximately 300–350 Wh/kg). The company holds more than 430 international patents and applications across materials science, cell architecture, and dendrite suppression technology. Sion Power has raised over $230 million in funding and has development agreements with approximately 40 OEMs. Its facility spans 110,000–115,000 square feet and houses dry rooms for cell manufacturing, a 5,300-square-foot safety and abuse testing lab with over 2,000 test channels, and pilot production lines for both anode and cell fabrication. The company currently focuses primarily on defense UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) applications. Its two commercial product lines are Licerion Strike (ST-20 and ST-30 cells, up to 473–500 Wh/kg specific energy, 6C max discharge, targeting loitering munitions and high-speed ISR drones, available from Q3 2026) and Licerion Echo (up to 510 Wh/kg, optimized for extended-endurance fixed-wing ISR and autonomous swarm drones, targeted for Q2 2027).

Both cell variants are UN38.3 certified, MIL-STD-461G (EMI) and MIL-STD-810H (environmental) qualified, NDAA Section 848-compliant (no foreign-sourced battery components), and DFARS-compliant with domestic supply chain traceability. Partners include LG Energy Solution, BASF, Cummins, Hillspire LLC, Euclidean Capital, and Soteria. Leadership includes CEO Pamela Fletcher (former GM VP Electric Vehicles), President/CSO Tracy Kelley (20+ years at Sion Power), and CCO Mitch Hourtienne (former CCO at Cepton). The company also pursues automotive EV applications as a secondary market.
