HKEX-listed Chinese AI firm behind SenseNova models and SenseCore cloud, and the SenseRobot home chess and Go robots that move pieces with a robotic arm.
"SenseTime Group Inc. is a Chinese artificial intelligence company founded in October 2014 by Tang Xiao'ou, then a professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Xu Li. It is registered and headquartered in Hong Kong, with its principal operating campus in Xuhui District, Shanghai, and has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under code 0020 since 30 December 2021. Tang Xiao'ou died in December 2023; Xu Li is chairman and chief executive.
The business rests on two technical assets. SenseNova is a family of natively multimodal foundation models, with the U1, U1.5 and U1.5-Lite releases and vision and agent variants. SenseCore is the company's AI cloud infrastructure, with roughly 48,000 petaflops of deployed capacity serving about 2.4 trillion tokens per day as of mid-2026, a twenty-two-fold year-on-year increase. Around these sit SenseFoundry for city, enterprise and identity vision applications, and consumer agent applications including the Kapi series and the Seko video agent.
Financially the company has moved from heavy losses toward break-even. FY2025 revenue was RMB 5.015 billion, up 32.4 per cent, of which generative AI contributed RMB 3.63 billion, up 51 per cent; net loss narrowed 58.6 per cent to RMB 1.782 billion and operating cash flow turned positive for the first time since listing. In the first half of 2026 revenue reached RMB 2.91 billion, up 23.4 per cent, with gross margin of 41.4 per cent, and the company reported its first IFRS net profit since listing at RMB 620 million, although on a non-IFRS adjusted basis it still recorded a RMB 390 million loss. Generative AI accounted for roughly 80 per cent of first-half revenue and overseas business grew 127 per cent.
Robotics enters through the company's consumer hardware line, SenseRobot, known in Chinese as Yuanluobo. SenseRobot builds home board-game robots that physically move pieces with a robotic arm guided by computer vision, and the company describes itself as the first to reach volume production of home-use AI robotic arms. The line began with a Chinese chess edition in August 2022, added a Go edition in 2023, launched a Lightwing lamp and a Go smart classroom in January 2024, showed an international chess edition with a mechanical gripper at the 2024 World Robot Conference, and has since released four-in-one and five-in-one multi-game editions. Overseas models are sold as SenseRobot Chess, SenseRobot Chess Lite, SenseRobot Chess Mini and SenseRobot Go through Amazon, Costco and a distributor network, with claimed recognition accuracy above 99.9 per cent and adaptive difficulty reaching an ELO of 3200.
SenseRobot is one of four vertical units in the company's 1+X restructuring, announced in 2025. The core is generative AI plus computer vision; the X ecosystem companies are home robotics under SenseRobot, smart healthcare under SenseCare and Shancui, smart retail under SenseRetail and Shanhui, and intelligent driving under Jueying Automotive. These units are intended to run under their own founding teams, raise outside capital and gradually deconsolidate from group accounts; collectively several have raised about RMB 1 billion externally. X-innovation revenue was RMB 106 million in the first half of 2025, down 39.5 per cent as the transition proceeded. SenseTime also holds portfolio stakes in Unisound, GalBOT, PaXiniTech, Rokid, BrainCo and Terminus Technologies.
Buyers outside China should note the company's export-control status. The United States Bureau of Industry and Security placed SenseTime on the Entity List in October 2019, the Treasury Department added it to its investment blacklist in December 2021, and the Department of Defense designated it a Chinese military company in January 2025. The company has contested these designations."
