Scythe Robotics is an American robotics company founded in 2018 and headquartered in Longmont, Colorado. The company designs and manufactures autonomous, all-electric commercial mowers purpose-built for the landscaping industry. Its flagship product, the M.52, features a 52-inch deck powered entirely by electricity for both the cutting deck (15 HP) and the drive unit (20 HP). Unlike traditional robotic mowers, the M.52 requires no perimeter wire; instead it uses onboard sensors and computer vision to navigate commercial turf, detect and avoid obstacles such as trees, poles, people, and pets, and autonomously map and mow job sites.
Scythe launched an updated generation of the M.52 with a 25% increase in battery capacity, a redesigned operator control panel, and halved charge times compared to earlier versions. By the end of 2025, the M.52 had mowed nearly 2 billion square feet for dozens of landscaping customers across 30 US states, demonstrating commercial scale at a broad geographic footprint.
The company raised $97.1 million across seven funding rounds before being acquired by Autonomous Solutions Inc. (ASI) in March 2026. The acquisition extended ASI's portfolio of autonomous off-road vehicles into commercial landscaping. Scythe's engineering team and technology, including the M.52 platform and its proprietary autonomy software, were integrated into ASI's broader autonomous equipment business targeting landscaping, construction, and agriculture markets.
Scythe's commercial model targets professional landscaping companies seeking to increase crew productivity and reduce labor requirements for large-area mowing. The robot operates alongside human workers, allowing crews to manage multiple mowing zones simultaneously. The all-electric platform eliminates fuel costs and reduces emissions relative to conventional gas-powered commercial equipment.
