Harbin Sagebot Intelligent Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., known by its Kando Robot brand, is a surgical robotics company founded in September 2013 and headquartered at No. 8 Dalian North Road in the Haping Road industrial cluster of the Harbin Economic and Technological Development Zone in Heilongjiang province, China. The company was established by a group of Harbin Institute of Technology alumni led by Du Zhijiang, who spent more than two decades as a professor at the university before becoming Sagebot's actual controller, alongside co-founders Yan Zhiyuan, Wang Weidong, Dong Wei, Wang Jianguo, and Cui Liang.
Sagebot's core product is the Kando multi-arm laparoscopic surgical robot system. Its first-generation SR1000 model received registration approval from China's National Medical Products Administration in June 2022 for urological procedures, making it one of a small number of domestically developed laparoscopic surgical robots cleared for clinical use in China. The company has since introduced a four-arm successor, the SR2000, which it displayed at the 2023 and 2024 ARUS/CUDA minimally invasive surgery annual conferences. Sagebot describes its technology portfolio as spanning surgical-robot system architecture, robotic surgical arms, master-control consoles, proprietary surgical instruments, master-slave teleoperation, and surgical navigation, and as of its IPO filings it held 160 authorized patents, including 42 invention patents.
The company filed for an initial public offering on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market in 2023 and passed its listing-committee review, but as of mid-2025 its registration remained pending with the China Securities Regulatory Commission, with public reporting noting cumulative revenue under 2 million yuan and a cumulative loss of roughly 370 million yuan through 2022 against a reported pre-IPO valuation above 8 billion yuan. Sagebot has continued commercial expansion in parallel with the listing process, reporting batch deliveries of Kando systems to multiple overseas markets and running a global training program for surgeons in Harbin.
