UCLA research lab led by Prof. Dennis Hong; develops humanoid robots including ARTEMIS; 6-time RoboCup world champion.
RoMeLa (Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory) is a research laboratory within the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at UCLA, directed by Professor Dennis Hong. Established for over two decades, the lab focuses on humanoid robot design, novel locomotion strategies, soft actuators, kinematics, and autonomous systems. RoMeLa is internationally recognized for developing the ARTEMIS humanoid robot—a full-sized, electrically actuated platform capable of running, jumping, and maintaining balance under perturbation—and has won the RoboCup Adult-Size Humanoid Soccer World Championship six times.
Research areas include legged locomotion, platform design, robot soccer, space exploration robotics, and modular robot systems.
