Company Overview

Robotnik Automation is a Spanish builder of autonomous mobile robots and mobile manipulators for industry and research, and one of the longest-running independent AMR makers in Europe. It was founded in 2002 in Valencia by Roberto Guzman and Rafael Lopez, who still lead it, and works from Ronda Auguste y Louis Lumiere 8 in the Parque Tecnologico at Paterna, with a presence in Singapore through Senserbot Pte Ltd. In January 2023 United Robotics Group GmbH of Bochum, Germany took a majority stake; URG is controlled by RSBG SE, the investment arm of the RAG-Stiftung, with SoftBank Robotics Group holding a minority position. Robotnik kept its brand, its site and its founding management, and URG cited the roughly 70-strong engineering team, particularly in R&D and software, as the reason for the deal.

The catalogue is broad for a company of this size and splits by environment and payload. RB-THERON and RB-1 BASE handle indoor intralogistics, the latter designed to carry an arm. RB-KAIROS uses four mecanum wheels for omnidirectional indoor movement, and its RB-KAIROS+ variant is the mobile manipulator the company is best known for, built to carry a Universal Robots arm. RB-ROBOUT moves heavy indoor loads up to one tonne. Outdoors, RB-VOGUI carries up to 150 kg for logistics, agriculture and last-mile work, and RB-FIQUS is a high-payload omnidirectional outdoor platform. RB-WATCHER is the surveillance and inspection variant, and RB-SUMMIT remains the configurable general-purpose platform that made the company's name in university labs.

Everything runs on a modular ROS 2 architecture, which is the commercial point as much as the technical one: research groups and integrators buy Robotnik platforms precisely because the stack is open and they can put their own code on it, rather than being handed a closed fleet manager. The company has taken part in more than sixty European R&D projects, and its reference list mixes academia with industry - Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and the CERTH Information Technologies Institute alongside Hankamp Gears, KOSTAL Ireland and partnerships with Universal Robots and Siemens. Applications documented on its own case pages run from photovoltaic panel and electrical substation inspection through construction, metallurgy, automotive and vehicle washing.

By the company's current figures it has delivered more than 5,200 robots to over 5,800 customers in more than 50 countries across twenty-plus years of trading, and it holds ISO 9001 and UNE 166002, the Spanish standard for R&D and innovation management systems.
