Qualisys

Qualisys is a Swedish company that develops and manufactures optical motion-capture and 3D positioning systems. A system combines high-speed infrared cameras, marker sets and the company's Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) software. The company was founded in Gothenburg in 1989, and its headquarters is at Kvarnbergsgatan 2, 411 05 Gothenburg. It also has offices in North America and Asia and sells through a global network of distributors and partners. Its customers work in three areas: life sciences, engineering and entertainment.

The current camera lines are Arqus and Miqus. Arqus is the high-performance line, with four models: the Arqus A5 (5 MP, 700 fps at full resolution, up to 1,400 fps in high-speed mode), the A9 (9 MP, 300 fps), the A12 (12 MP, 300 fps at full resolution, up to 1,040 fps in high-speed mode) and the A26 (26 MP, 150 fps). Arqus cameras weigh 1.9 kg, can detect passive markers at up to 50 m and have a stated 3D resolution of 0.03 to 0.06 mm. The line also includes Arqus Underwater and Arqus MRI variants. Miqus is the compact line, with three models: the Miqus M1 (1 MP, 250 fps, capture distance up to 10 m), the M3 (2 MP, 340 fps, up to 15 m) and the M5 (4 MP, 180 fps, up to 18 m). Miqus Video adds reference video to a system, and Miqus Hybrid supports both marker-based and markerless tracking.

Qualisys Track Manager (QTM) is the capture and analysis software. It calculates 3D and 6DOF data from 2D marker detections and includes a real-time server that streams 2D, 3D and 6DOF data over TCP or UDP. It integrates in real time with Maya, MotionBuilder, Unity, Unreal Engine, MATLAB and LabVIEW, and custom applications can connect through a real-time SDK or an HTTP/REST API. Scripting is available in Python and Lua. QTM also synchronizes with force plates, EMG systems and eye trackers. It is sold under a site license, without hardware dongles.

For robotics and drones, Qualisys offers native ROS integration, with resources published on GitHub. The company states latency under 10 ms for closed-loop control, unique 6DOF identification of each tracked object across the capture volume, and scaling from one robot to more than 100 agents. It also offers IP67-rated cameras with sun filters for outdoor arenas and underwater cameras for tracking marine vehicles. Named robotics users include Universite de Toulon (marine, amphibious and land mobile robotics), NTNU AMOS in Norway (underwater vehicle research) and Ericsson (haptic augmented reality). Other applications include gait analysis, sports biomechanics, clinical use, automotive and aerospace testing, animation and virtual production.

ABB was one of Qualisys' first customers and used its camera in crane control systems. QTM was launched in 2002. The company expanded into North America in 2007 and opened a sales office in Shanghai in 2011. By 2015 it had sold about 10,000 cameras. Vatterledens Invest acquired a majority stake in 2016. Between 2016 and 2019 the company gained ISO 9001:2015 certification and launched a clinical system as a medical device. Between 2020 and 2024 it introduced the Arqus platform, launched Arqus Underwater and Arqus MRI, and opened an office in Singapore.

The parent company, Qualisys Holding AB (publ), began trading on Nasdaq First North Premier Growth Market in Stockholm (ticker QSYS) on February 21, 2025. The offering was about SEK 343 million at SEK 76 per share, giving a market value of about SEK 760 million. Cornerstone investors included Andra AP-fonden, Handelsbanken Fonder, Swedbank Robur Fonder and Investment AB Spiltan. The CEO is Ingemar Pettersson, and the group has about 83 employees. Qualisys lists ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001 certifications and says its clinical products comply with the Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC.
