Proception.AI (operating as Proception Inc.) is a Palo Alto, California-based robotics hardware company founded in 2024 by Jay Li and Jack Xu (Jianxiang Xu). The company designs and manufactures advanced dexterous robotic hands inspired by human hand anatomy, developed in collaboration with hand surgeons. Its flagship product, ProHand 1.0, features over 20 degrees of freedom, integrated skin-like tactile sensors that detect contact forces across the entire surface, and an adaptive grip system capable of handling fragile or irregularly shaped objects.
A companion product, ProGlove, enables teleoperation and training data collection for robot learning pipelines. Proception raised an $11 million seed round led by First Round Capital with participation from Y Combinator (W25 batch) and BoxGroup, among others. The company targets researchers, humanoid robot OEMs, and teams building contact-rich manipulation systems, teleoperation workflows, and imitation learning datasets.
ProHand 1.0 is engineered to be impact-tolerant, field-serviceable, and compatible with standard robot wrist interfaces, addressing the gap between industrial grippers and true human-level hand dexterity.
