Portescap

Portescap is a miniature-motor manufacturer originally founded in 1931 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, where its legal entity Portescap S.A. remains registered today. The company now operates as a brand of Regal Rexnord Corporation and lists a North American headquarters at 110 Westtown Road, West Chester, Pennsylvania, alongside regional offices in Switzerland, China (Shanghai), India (Mumbai), Brazil, Japan and South Korea. Portescap's corporate history runs through Danaher Motion, which owned the Portescap brand before it was carried into Altra Industrial Motion, and Altra Industrial Motion was in turn acquired by Regal Rexnord in a deal completed in 2023, making Portescap a wholly owned subsidiary brand rather than an independently traded company.

The company designs and manufactures miniature motors and precision motion components for performance-critical, space-constrained applications. Its brushless DC motor range includes the Ultra EC slotless line, built around a proprietary U-coil winding for low iron losses, spanning diameters from 8 mm (the 08ECP20, rated 1.07 mNm at up to 60,000 rpm) up to 35 mm (the 35ECS80, rated 193.4 mNm at up to 40,000 rpm), with high-torque variants such as the 22ECT82 (98.8 mNm, 20,000 rpm) and 30ECT90 (225 mNm, 25,000 rpm) aimed at compact high-torque drive requirements. The company also produces brush DC motors, including its coreless Athlonix line, several families of stepper motors (can-stack, disc-magnet and linear-stepper designs), linear actuators, gearheads, encoders and motor controllers.

Portescap markets specific product configurations for surgical power tools and other medical devices, as well as motion solutions for aerospace applications, in addition to serving general industrial and robotics motion-control customers. Its products are typically sold as components that original-equipment manufacturers integrate into larger devices -- surgical handpieces, aerospace actuation systems, robotic joints and industrial power tools -- rather than as standalone end products, and the company distributes globally through both direct sales offices and a network of authorized distributors.

As part of Regal Rexnord, Portescap benefits from group-level engineering and manufacturing resources under what Regal Rexnord calls its Business System, while continuing to operate under the Portescap brand name for its miniature motor and motion-component product lines across medical, aerospace, industrial and robotics end markets.
