Planet Labs PBC, operating as Planet, is a publicly traded Earth-observation company headquartered in San Francisco, California, with additional offices including Berlin, Washington, D.C., and Ljubljana. The company was founded in 2010 by former NASA scientists Will Marshall and Robbie Schingler and is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under ticker PL.
Planet designs, builds and operates a constellation of small imaging satellites that has grown to more than 450 spacecraft launched, with more than 200 currently active in orbit. Its SuperDove satellites capture imagery across eight spectral bands with near-daily coverage of the Earth's landmass, while its SkySat satellites provide 50-centimeter-resolution imagery with sub-daily revisit rates over specific locations. The newer Pelican satellites are built for faster high-resolution tasking, and the Tanager satellites carry hyperspectral sensors for methane emissions monitoring. Combined, these systems collect more than 350 million square kilometers of imagery daily, processed through Planet's own ground-station network and delivered through APIs and a cloud-based data platform.
Planet serves customers in agriculture, forestry, government, defense, energy, finance, insurance, maritime and mapping, using frequent revisit imagery for crop monitoring, deforestation tracking, disaster response and change detection.
