Physical Intelligence, styled as pi, is an AI robotics company headquartered in San Francisco, California. It was founded in 2024 by researchers including Karol Hausman, Sergey Levine, Chelsea Finn and Brian Ichter, drawing on backgrounds at Google DeepMind, Stanford University and UC Berkeley; Hausman serves as chief executive and Levine as chief scientist. The company develops a single foundation model meant to direct many kinds of robots across many tasks, rather than building its own hardware.
Its flagship model pi0, released in October 2024, is a vision-language-action (VLA) flow model trained on multi-robot, multi-task data, with reported results on tasks such as folding laundry, assembling boxes, bussing tables and making coffee. Physical Intelligence open-sourced pi0's weights and code in February 2025. Later releases extend the line: pi0.5 (April 2025) targets open-world generalization on mobile manipulators; pi-star-0.6 (November 2025) adds RL fine-tuning; pi0.7 (April 2026) is a steerable model.
Physical Intelligence raised 400 million dollars in a Series A round in November 2024 at roughly a 2.4 billion dollar valuation, then 600 million dollars in 2025 at a 5.6 billion dollar valuation, with CapitalG, Sequoia Capital, Thrive Capital, Bond, Jeff Bezos and OpenAI among backers. In 2026 it raised close to 1 billion dollars at a valuation near 11 billion dollars.
