Petal Surgical is a surgical technology company based in Redwood City, California, founded in 2021 and co-founded by Prash Chopra, a veteran of surgical robotics companies Intuitive Surgical and Verb Surgical. The company is pioneering incisionless surgery through its proprietary Acoustic Sculpting technology, a form of boiling histotripsy that uses focused sound waves to precisely destroy harmful tissue without cuts, heat, or toxicity.
Petal's platform integrates acoustic liquefaction with robotics, imaging, and AI-driven controls to deliver precise, reproducible tissue treatment using Millisecond Pulse Histotripsy, aiming to create an outpatient-ready standard of care that avoids the trauma of conventional and minimally invasive surgery. The company emerged from stealth in October 2025 with a $10 million Series A round and has raised over $25 million in total financing, with participation from investors including Draper Associates, Actions Capital (formerly K50 Ventures), and the Fong's Family Foundation. Surgical robotics pioneer Fred Moll, co-founder of Intuitive Surgical, has joined the company's board. Petal Surgical's leadership team brings expertise spanning neurosurgery, medical robotics, and advanced energy systems, positioning the company to advance focused-ultrasound robotic therapy in the medical device sector.
