The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) is a not-for-profit technology organization headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland, established in 2017 as part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal with GBP 180 million in combined UK and Scottish government funding.
NZTC works with industry, government and academic partners to develop and commercialize technologies that reduce the cost and carbon footprint of energy production, organizing its work into six technology themes: robotics and autonomous systems, data and digital integration, hydrogen and other clean fuels, carbon capture utilization and storage, renewables and energy storage, and industrial emissions reduction. Within the robotics and autonomous systems theme, the centre funds field trials of offshore inspection, maintenance and remote-operation technologies aimed at reducing the number of personnel required on energy platforms. The centre also runs the TechX accelerator program for early-stage energy technology startups.
Since its founding, NZTC reports having screened more than 3,500 technologies, advanced 174 field trials to completion or an active stage, brought 74 technologies into commercial use, and accelerated 130 startups through TechX.
