Micothon BV
"We elevate integrated crop protection to a higher level."
Dutch maker of greenhouse crop protection systems since 1995, including automatic spraying robots and autonomous UV-C robots for strawberries.
Micothon BV is a Dutch company in Mijdrecht that develops, manufactures and sells crop protection systems for greenhouses, combining spray, air and light technology for integrated pest management. It has been active since 1995, with Theo Straathof credited with developing its technology, and reports 208 projects, 110 IPM 2.0 installations and sales in more than 20 countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Kenya and Ethiopia.
The Mico Spray line covers automatic spraying in conventional, air-assisted, spot-specific and stationary modes. Mico Air addresses insect control with air technology for vegetable and ornamental crops, and Mico Light provides UV-C treatment against fungal disease. Earlier, Micothon introduced the EX-2 automatic spraying robot, successor to the EX, with a four-wheel drive and steering system for uneven greenhouse floors, vertical booms treating 3 to 6 rows per pass for tall crops or a horizontal boom for low crops, and an optional air-assist system; development began in 2010 with trials at Maridadi Flowers in Kenya. In 2025 demonstrations in Belgian strawberry cultivation, Micothon's autonomous UV-C robot ran on pneumatic tyres over the ground cover, powered by cable, treating about 3 hectares per night; a pipe-rail version is also offered.
The company emphasises custom production and continued support after installation, including replacement parts for machines more than twenty years old, and offers a Greenhouse IPM 2.0 model to compare technology combinations.
