Precision agriculture platform using UAVs and satellite imagery with CV and ML to detect crop anomalies. Assets acquired by Taranis in 2018.
Mavrx Inc. was a precision agriculture technology company founded in 2013 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. The company built an aerial imagery and analytics platform that combined manned aircraft, UAVs, and satellite imagery to deliver actionable crop intelligence to farmers, agronomists, and agricultural input suppliers. Mavrx's platform supported more than 30 major crops — including corn, soybeans, wheat, cotton, sugarcane, and potatoes — and at its peak monitored over 14 million acres across the United States, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and Argentina.
The company's core technology applied computer vision and machine learning algorithms to ultra-high-resolution aerial imagery to detect field abnormalities such as weeds, uneven crop emergence, nutrient deficiencies, disease and insect infestations, water damage, and equipment-related crop damage. Farmers and their advisors could access insights through the Mavrx Scout mobile application and the Mavrx web platform, enabling rapid decision-making to protect yield and reduce input costs. Mavrx built what it described as the world's largest manned aircraft imagery network as the backbone for delivering consistent, high-resolution coverage across large agricultural regions.
In May 2018, Taranis announced the acquisition of Mavrx's assets to create a combined aerial imagery platform. Prior to the acquisition, Mavrx had established itself as one of the largest aerial imagery and analytics providers in the agriculture sector. The company's imagery technology and customer relationships were absorbed into Taranis's broader crop intelligence offering following the deal's completion.
