Montpellier, France CNRS and university joint lab founded 1992; robotics department runs medical, underwater, and human-robot-interaction research teams.
LIRMM (Laboratoire d'Informatique, de Robotique et de Microelectronique de Montpellier) is a joint research unit, UMR 5506, co-supervised by the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) and the University of Montpellier, with secondary support from Paul-Valery Montpellier University, Perpignan Via Domitia University, and INRIA. The laboratory was established in 1992 and is based in Montpellier, France.
LIRMM organizes its work into three scientific departments: Computer Science, Microelectronics, and Robotics. Within Robotics, the DEXTER team works on medical robotics and manipulation, EXPLORE and ICAR focus on perception and underwater exploration robotics, and IDH studies physical human-robot interaction and humanoid robotics. These teams apply their research to manufacturing, healthcare, environmental monitoring, and everyday human environments.
The laboratory is led by director Marianne Huchard, with Abdoulaye Gamatie and Christophe Paul serving as deputy directors, and it draws faculty, doctoral students, and staff from both of its supervising institutions.
