LG Display Co., Ltd. is a South Korean display panel manufacturer headquartered in the LG Twin Tower, 128 Yeoui-daero, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and listed on both the Korea Exchange (KRX: 034220) and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: LPL). The company traces its origins to 1999, when it was established as LG.Philips LCD, a joint venture between LG Electronics and the Dutch electronics company Philips to manufacture thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels. Philips fully divested its stake by late 2008, and the company was renamed LG Display in February 2009. LG Display reported approximately 53,049 employees as of December 31, 2025, and continues to operate fabrication and back-end assembly facilities across South Korea, having discontinued domestic LCD panel production in South Korea in late 2022 and sold its Chinese LCD manufacturing facilities to a subsidiary of TCL in September 2024 for roughly $1.5 billion, as part of a broader strategic shift away from commodity LCD and toward OLED and flexible display technology.
The company's current product portfolio spans large-format television panels, including Tandem WOLED and transparent OLED technologies; monitor panels for gaming and professional use; laptop displays using Tandem and Neo:LED backlight technologies; mobile displays for smartphones, smartwatches, and tablets; and automotive displays in both OLED and LCD formats. In the automotive segment, LG Display holds Automotive SPICE (ASPICE) certification, a process-quality standard specific to automotive software and hardware development, reflecting its position as a qualified display supplier to auto manufacturers.
In July 2026, LG Display was reported to have launched plastic OLED (P-OLED) display panels designed for use as expressive "faces" on humanoid robots operating in industrial environments, extending the company's flexible and plastic-substrate OLED technology, originally developed for smartphones and wearables, into the emerging humanoid and service-robot display market. Plastic OLED panels are thinner, lighter, and more impact- and vibration-resistant than glass-substrate displays, characteristics relevant to robots that must withstand mechanical stress in factory and warehouse settings.
